When you’re looking for a vehicle that packs quite a punch, the Ford Mustang and the Dodge Challenger are potent vehicles that may come to mind. These models are known for their powerful engines and sporty looks, but which one comes out on top?
Fortunately, both the Ford Mustang and the Dodge Challenger offer multiple powertrains. This will give you the opportunity to find the model that works best for your needs. The Ford Mustang offers two different engine options to choose from.
The Challenger has five engines to choose from, offering more flexibility in terms of power. Not only does the Challenger speed ahead in the number of engines, but it also outperforms the Ford Mustang.
The Mustang’s standard engine is a 2.3L GTDI engine, producing 310 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque. If you’re looking for the most power you can get out of the Mustang, its available 5.0L Ti-VCT V8 engine fits the bill, with 450 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque.
Four of the five Challenger engines overpower the standard engine of the Mustang. The most powerful engine is the available Supercharged 6.2L High-Output HEMI® V8 engine that puts out an incredible 807 horsepower and 707 lb-ft of torque —far outpacing the Mustang.
Beauty, Brains, and Brawn. Who says you can’t have it all? In addition to all that power, you’ll have tons of ways to connect to the outside world in these muscle cars. The Ford Mustang and the Dodge Challenger have the tech to make your drives more enjoyable.
Let’s start off with the basics. The Ford Mustang starts out with a 6-speaker sound system that’s MP3 capable. There are also two USB smart-charging ports.
On the other hand, the Dodge Challenger offers an available 8.4-inch Uconnect® touchscreen with Navigation. You can use your favorite smartphone apps on this system using Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ integration. Keep your hands on the wheel while you call friends using Bluetooth® hands-free calling.
Your ride deserves the perfect soundtrack. We already know the Ford comes standard with a 6-speaker system, but what about the available options? The Mustang also offers two other audio systems, such as the 9-speaker one and the Bang & Olufsen® sound system with 12 speakers.
Once again, the Dodge Challenger doesn’t break a sweat as it surpasses the Mustang. The standard system is very similar to the Mustang with 6 speakers. However, the Challenger can be upgraded to an available 19-speaker Harman Kardon® Premium Sound Group. Not only does this have seven more speakers than the Mustang’s top audio system, but it also has two subwoofers.
So, we’ve got the brains and the brawn. Here’s where you’ll find the beauty. In addition to having stylish and sporty exteriors, both the Ford Mustang and the Dodge Challenger offer spacious and comfortable interiors for you to enjoy.
Both vehicles offer plenty of space and similar amenities like dual-zone climate control. However, the Dodge Challenger gives you and your passengers a bit more room to spread out.
The Ford Mustang offers 29 inches of legroom in the rear—less than the Challenger, where you'll find a much more comfortable 33.1 inches. This may not seem like a big difference; however, your tall passengers will appreciate the extra space.
The 2023 Challenger also offers a lot more hip room in the front and in the back, with 55.3 inches in the front and 47.8 inches in the rear of the cabin. The Mustang has less space, with 54.9 inches of hip room in the front and 47.4 inches in the back.
If you’re headed out on a road trip, you’ll need space both for luggage and passengers. The Dodge Challenger offers 94 cubic feet of passenger volume, while the Ford falls behind with 82.8 cubic feet.
As for cargo, you’ll also find the Challenger wins. The Mustang has 13.5 cubic feet of cargo space, while the Challenger boasts even more, at 16.2 cubic feet.
When you put the 2023 Dodge Challenger and the Ford Mustang in a head-to-head race, the Dodge Challenger pulls ahead in terms of performance, interior technology, and interior space.
